The story began when the Mainz wine merchant Adam Henkell went to France to learn the refined art of champagne production. In 1856, he started to produce German sparkling wine according to the French method in his homeland. By the end of the 19th century, his brand had become the market leader.
Today the Henkell & Co. Group is still one of Europe’s leading suppliers of sparkling wine, with branches in 20 countries and exports to over 100 countries all over the world. Henkell is also the market leader in a number of countries for spirits such as vodka, gin and brandy. Since 1902, the company has had its headquarters in Wiesbaden-Biebrich.
